HED International, Inc. introduces a new series of electric kilns designed to provide the high level of temperature control and uniformity required by todays manufacturer’s of high tech ceramic products.
Electric "Smart" Kiln
The UNIQUE/PERENY Model UEK-27 achieves heating rates as low as 1°C/hr throughout the firing cycle from ambient to 1300°C(2372°F). This unprecedented level of temperature control is accomplished by a novel combination of preheated air injectors and resistance heating technology. Initial heating is performed with preheated air (up to 700°C) which is injected at multiple locations for maximum recirculation and excellent temperature uniformity. At higher temperatures, the control system provides the operator with the flexiblity of selecting a combination of resistance heating elements and preheated air or just resistance heating elements.
Additional features include kiln pressure control, current monitoring of heater zones, and an option for data acquisition with HED’s kiln HMI package.

HED International Tech Center Adds New Tapecasting Pilot Plant
Pro-Cast Tape Room
HED International has installed a new PRO-CAST® Model TCM-121 Tapecasting Machine and Pilot Plant at their New Jersey Technical Service Center. This facility will extend HED’s tapecast product development and customer service capability. The pilot plant can produce a precision tape cast film as thin as 10 microns continuously on either a stainless steel conveyor or polymer carrier. Contract tapecasting and product development service is also available.
HED International offers a full line of versatile PRO-CAST® Series Casting/Coating Machines for the production of high quality cast/coated products. Systems range in length from 12 feet, ideal for lab scale applications, to over 100 feet for production models. They are available with a variety of casting surfaces, casting heads and carriers, and designed for batch or continuous production of flexible films. “Green” tape thicknesses from less than 0.001″ to 0.125″, and tape widths from 4″ to 52″, are routinely produced on the PRO-CAST® machines. The PRO-CAST® Series are “production proven”, having set performance standards in the production of millions of square inches of product. All are equipped with continuous conveyor systems with surfaces that assure imperfection-free castings/coatings. Production variables, such as conveyor speed, temperature profile, solvent gradient, and air flow, are adjusted and controlled precisely.

New Pro-Cast® Tapecasting System Installed In Taiwan
Pro-Cast Installation
HED International announces the completion of a new PRO-CAST Tape Casting System installation in Taipei, Taiwan. Ms. Kathleen Kriskewic, Vice President and Product Manager for the HED Tape Casting Systems Group, collaborated with the customer to provide the most advanced LTCC manufacturing capability available today.
All PRO-CAST Tape Casters/Coaters are developed through an analysis of customer requirements and are presently used in the production of advanced ceramics, fuel cells, rechargeable batteries, capacitors, electronic materials, thermal adhesives and other tape cast products.

HED® International Calcining Furnace Upgrade Doubles Production
Calciner Upgrade
HED International recently commissioned an upgrade of a calcining furnace in Charleston, S.C. with the addition of a new combustion system, a ceramic muffle, PLC & touchscreen HMI control panel.
“The result is a furnace that is performing great, firing uniformity is excellent” said John Steele, HED Project Manager. “We’re pleased that production has doubled without much more fuel consumption, everyone is breathing a lot easier now that the air is cleaner because dusting is no longer a problem from this furnace!”
